No matter what month it is, you will always find that London offers up a plethora of events to entertain, delight and inform you. This month, we highlight our top 5 picks of cool happenings around town.

The 13th Annual ARTRAGEOUS!

If you are a patron of the Arts, you will love ARTRAGEOUS! Each year a select group of well-known Londoners are asked to create works of art to be auctioned in support of The ARTS Project. A few years back, I was delighted to participate and showcase my amateur photography talents while helping raising funds for a great cause. The night is always filled with other surprises including unique auction items and one-of-a-kind experiences.

London celebrates Octoberfest!

Willkommen to London’s Octoberfest and join us in the celebration of Bavarian heritage with food, beer, music, and fun at the Western Fair (October 7 & 8 and 13 & 15). Feel free to wear your dirndls or lederhosen and get ready to eat, sing, polka, speak German and enjoy a pint or two.

Also consider checking out the Octoberfest celebration at the German Canadian Club! We are all invited to come and enjoy German beer, traditional food and live entertainment. Tickets are available online

Halloween in the City

London loves Halloween and you don’t have to be a kid to participate. There are plenty of fun events around town to celebrate all things spooky and here are my favourites for the adult kid in all of us.

Not to be missed is the London Fringe’ Annual Lost Soul Stroll which runs nightly from October 18 to 22 and October 25 to 29.

Museum London’s Annual Fright Night Party on October 29 - always a blast with great music, dancing, amazing costumes and surprises throughout the night.

Looking for something more family friendly? Storyspook Village at Storybook Gardens from October 21 – 30, offers the family a spooky (but not scary) Halloween event and is fast becoming a favourite Halloween tradition. Come dressed in costumes, bring your flashlight and treat bag and trick or treat through the park. Enjoy the Halloween lights, music, and special events, ride some rides, and visit with various costumed characters and puppets throughout the park. This activity is ideally suited for children up to about age 10.

Get to know our historic neighbourhoods

London has an amazing history and nothing beats exploring our city’s heritage than a walking tour with local historical experts from the Architectural Conservatory of Ontario (London Chapter)! This year, everyone is invited to explore the heritage district of Old North on Oct 16. Tour is free to all with registration. Tours take approximately 2 hours (rain or shine). A second tour will also be held on Wednesday, October 19.

And now for something completely different

On Oct 17 be sure to check out London’s 2nd Wolf Hall Debate – an Oxford-style debate on issues of national and global concern. After attending the first debate and loving the experience, this has to be on my top list. It’s really a great event featuring excellent thought leaders. The hall is often packed to hear engaging discussion and watch the art of true debate the way it was meant to be!
